Sunflower have been cultivated for the past 8000 years! They are one of the rare flowers that have a flower in the name itself and sun because they keep tracking. Even when we were at school this is one of those flowers, we constantly relished drawing!
We come across these bright beauties during road trips on a sunny day in large fields. They are pollinated by the world's best pollinators “the bees”. They are also known for self-pollination. Sunflowers need 10-12 hours of sunshine to set. After setting the petals wither, then the flower heads are cut to harvest, and seeds are extracted for oil.
